KANSAS — The meter continues to run for the costs of the quadruple murders near Richter in may. Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards told Franklin County Commissioners Monday that he has received the first of many bills to come as a result of the murders. The first is a $26,000 bill from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department for forensics and lab work. Johnson County did give a discount to Franklin County because the murder investigation also involved a missing-persons case in Olathe, he said. Richards says the Kansas Bureau of Investigation lab can do the lab work for free, but is so underfunded and backlogged on work that the KBI can’t guarantee test results will back to the county in a timely manner. Kyle Flack of Ottawa has been charged with four counts of murder in the case. He’s due back in Franklin County District Court this Thursday.
