BALDWIN CITY — A Quayle Bible Collection exhibit titled “Illuminating the Bible: Woodcuts and Engravings” will open Saturday in the Spencer Wing of the Collins Library at Baker. A reception for the event is planned 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 19. With the advent of the printing press, illustrations could be mass produced along with texts using woodcuts and engravings. “Illuminating the Bible” shows how artists through the ages have interpreted and supplemented the Bible. The exhibit is organized by illustrations of the creation of the world, wicked women, miracles, plagues and maps. The Quayle collection’s Nuremberg Chronicle from 1493 will be turned to a page showing the creation of the world.
