OTTAWA — A 40-year-old Ottawa man could spend four years in state prison for accidentally shooting a four-year-old boy earlier this year. Brian Bruno was sentenced Monday in Franklin County District Court for aggravated battery and child endangerment in connection with the shooting. However, Bruno’s attorney has filed a motion that District Judge Thomas Sachse depart from the state’s sentencing guidelines and place bruno on probation rather than send to him prison. Sachse has scheduled a hearing on Sept. 30 on the motion. Bruno was convicted of shooting the boy in the leg with a handgun at his home in northern Ottawa in early January. Bruno was showing someone else the gun and thought it was unloaded when he pulled the trigger.
