OSAWATOMIE — A campaign to keep the Midway Drive-In near Osawatomie alive has been given one week. Tamara Maichel is one of the organizers fighting to keep the Midway open and she says Honda has extended an on-line contest that figures in the survival which will give away an another four digital projectors to drive-ins in the nation next week. The owners of the Midway Drive-In say they don’t have the money to buy the expensive digital projectors needed for the theater and plan to close the drive-in for good. However, locals have organized the campaign, which involves an Internet voting contest sponsored by Honda for free digital projectors. If enough people go on-line to vote, the Midway could be one of four drive-ins to win one of the projectors, Maichel said. At least 10,000 people have to vote on-line at www.projectdrivein.com, she said.
