JOHNSON COUNTY — An Ottawa man was one of two persons injured in a three-vehicle pileup on I-35 in Johnson County Wednesday morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 50-year-old Michael Thuro of Ottawa, 41-year-old Mark Friel of Olathe and 45-year-old Melissa Malcom of Olathe, were driving traveling northbound on I-35 just south of Antioch Road when traffic backed up. The Highway Patrol says Thuro’s van ran into the back of Friel’s car, which was pushed into Malcom’s SUV. Friel was taken to KU Medical Center. The Highway Patrol says Thuro may have been injured but wasn’t taken to a hospital. Malcom wasn’t injured. They were all wearing seat belts.
