OTTAWA — Ottawa University vice president and provost Dennis Tyner is leaving to become the dean of health sciences at OU’s Phoenix campus. Tyner has been provost at the Ottawa campus for nearly seven years. During his tenure, the Ottawa campus has very nearly doubled its enrollment, substantially decreased its operating deficit, and made several facilities improvements. OU president Kevin Eichner said Tyner has the skills to build a dynamic health sciences curriculum at Phoenix. The university has nearly 700 students in health care management, counseling and nursing. Under Tyner’s leadership, OU will explore the feasibility of adding a school of health sciences to house these and future programs, Eichner said. Tyner will remain in Ottawa for the rest of the fall semester to finish his teaching commitment s and to help Terry Haines, who has been named as provost of the Ottawa campus. Despite the move, Tyner will remain OU’s university provost and chief academic officer.
