POMONA — West Franklin High School has been named a national Blue Ribbon school, one of five schools in Kansas to receive a Blue Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education. West Franklin is recognized in the exemplary improving schools category for reading and math. The road to the award started five years ago when the school started a remedial program to improve high school students’ test scores in reading and math, principal Rick Smith said. The faculty and staff have worked hard to achieve the honor, he said. The schools will be honored at an awards ceremony Nov. 18-19 in Washington.
