KANSAS — In a unanimous decision Friday morning, the Kansas Supreme Court reversed the issuing of a 2010 permit by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for a new coal-fired power plant in southwestern Kansas.  The high court ordered the KDHE to rethink its permit to Sunflower Electric, which has sought to build the controversial plant near Holcomb.  The Kansas Sierra Club filed suit to block the construction of the new plant.  The Court says the KDHE erred in its interpretation and application of the federal Clean Air Act and the Kansas Air Quality Act by failing to apply new federal air-quality regulations.  The proposed plant has been a source of political controversy for years.
