KANSAS CITY — Most people avoid moving to the Kansas City area because of fear of tornadoes.  It was because of his fear of tornadoes, Willie Wilson joined the Kansas City Royals.  In his new book, the former Royals star writes that he and his mother were at Kansas City’s Muehlebach Hotel when a tornado siren sounded.  In a panic, the Wilsons, who were from New Jersey, huddled in a bath tub.  While they were in the tub, his mother confessed she was $30,000 in debt.  Originally, Wilson had planned to play college football for Maryland but accepted the Royals’ $100,000 signing.  Wilson’s book is entitled “Inside the Park: Running the Base Path of Life.”  The Lawrence Journal World reports his book recounts his bankruptcy after baseball, as well as his cocaine use.  The book also describes how he dragged himself out of his rock bottom, and his spiritual rebirth.
