OTTAWA — Mid-America Nutrition Program executive director Sharon Geiss has announced her resignation, effective Nov. 8. Geiss has been executive director 13 years. “I have enjoyed my time at Mid-America Nutrition and believe in the mission, but it is time for me to step down and the board to find someone with new ideas and new energy,” Geiss said. “I have been fortunate to be involved in leading the organization to stability after the purchase of the building that houses our kitchen.” Geiss led the program to become accredited by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. She has also served as president of the Meals on Wheels Association of Kkansas, and she presently serves on the board of the Meals on Wheels Association of America. The nutrition program has faced many challenges in the last several years, and funding levels remain flat while costs continue to rise, the board said in a written statement. The board has started the process of finding a successor. The board said the program has an outstanding staff that can keep the organization running smoothly while the search for a new director is underway. The program is a cooperative arrangement between six counties: Franklin, Anderson, Osage, Linn, Miami and Coffey counties.
