WELLSVILLE — A Johnson County couple has dropped their plan to move their commercial pumpkin patch operation to a site in southeast Douglas County north of Wellsville. Douglas County administrator Craig Weinaug told the Baldwin City Signal that Kirk and Julie Berggren may resubmit their permit application later. The Berggrens had sought to move their KC Pumpkin Patch to a site along K-33. However, their application for an agritourism business permit attracted strong opposition from neighbors, who expressed concern about traffic and noise. Following a public hearing, douglas county commissioners told the zoning and codes department to draft a permit with tough limits on the operation and activities. The Signal reported that in light of some of the proposed restrictions, the Berggrens chose to withdraw their application for the time being.
