TOPEKA – The State of Kansas has been preparing for a government shutdown in recent years, and because of that, the state is in good financial shape, at least for now. That’s according to a letter sent out from Governor Sam Brownback to media outlets regarding how the state will carry on during the government shutdown. The letter reads, in part, that the state is being helped out by having $430 million in the bank as of this week. Brownback also says that the National Guard and the Kansas Highway Patrol will continue their respective roles. If the shutdown continues into November, the state will have to reassess its options.
