OTTAWA — Long-time Ottawa business owner Glenn Underwood died Monday at the age of 99. Underwood got into business when he was 22 when he paid $12 to assume a $350 loan for a small service station in Williamsburg in 1936. He borrowed money from his father to buy his first load of gasoline for the station. In 1942, he bought a service station at Second and Hickory in Ottawa. He built the first drive-in theatre in Franklin County and opened it in 1949. In 1954, he traded the drive-in to the owner of the Ottawa John Deere dealership in a three-way deal. He ran the farm equipment and GMC truck dealership for decades.
