LAWRENCE — The granddaughters of Wellsville artist Elizabeth “Grandma” Layton will talk about and read from the new book about Layton called “Signs Along the Way,” Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 the Lawrence Arts Center. The memoir and biography is co-written by sisters Carla Russell, Kathy Tracy and Judy Cross and includes stored, previously-unpublished writings and illustrations by Layton, who used art to fighter her long-running depression. Her socially-charged but primitive style won her an national audience. There will be cake and cider to mark Layton’s birthday which is Oct. 27. A national tour of her drawings will coincide with the release of the book. Some of the works have never been available for public view. A documentary on her life is also being produced by Layton’s long-time friend and agent, Don Lambert.
