LAWRENCE — A new popular historian, Jill Lepore, will speak in a lecture called “Unseen — The History of Privacy” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union at KU. She’ll also attend an informal public question-and-answer session 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in KU’s Hall Center conference hall. In her lecture, lepore traces the history of “invisible people,” ranging from the mysteries of the medieval church to the privacy settings on Facebook. She argues that what was once mysterious became secret and, finally, private. In addition to her historical writings, which include the book “Book of Ages: The Life and Opinions of Jane Franklin,” she is a staff writer for the New Yorker magazine.
