BALDWIN CITY — KMBC Channel 9 and KCTV Channel 5 are reporting a Baldwin school district employee has been charged with hosting a teen drinking party at her home in June. A teenaged boy was badly burned during the party. Eighteen-year-old Lukas Armstrong’s mother Mary Armstrong said the misdemeanor hosting charge against Shelley Haskill isn’t severe enough. Lukas Armstrong received serious burns over much of his body after someone threw a five-gallon can of gasoline into a fire pit while some partygoers were standing next to it. While Armstrong was trying to remove the can, it exploded. His mother said Haskell tried to treat his burns by putting him in the shower and delayed calling 911. He spent two weeks in the University of Kansas Hospital’s burn unit. His family said his medical expenses have reached $250,000 and will go higher. The younger Armstrong told KCTV Channel 5 that he isn’t willing to testify against Haskill. Haskill declined to comment.
