WICHITA — A former moderate Republican state senator who turned Democrat after being attacked by the conservative wing of the GOP said she’s challenging controversial Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Jean Schodorf, Wichita, said she plans to campaign for secretary of state as a Democrat. Schodorf served 12 years in the senate as a Republican and chaired the Senate Education Committee. But schodorf was one of the GOP moderates successfully targeted by Gov. Sam Brownback and his conservative allies in the Republican primary in August 2012. Mission Hills businessman Randy Rolston had also filed for the Democratic nomination for secretary of state but said he plans to withdraw for family reasons and will endorse Schodorf.
