TOPEKA – Kansas remains in the top 10 highest average scores in all categories of the National Assessment of Educational Programs. That’s according to the U.S. Department of Education, which says overall average scores in reading and math among Kansas students remained virtually unchanged since the last time the test was given in 2011. The test is given to fourth and eighth grade students and among fourth graders, Kansas was tied with a number of other states for having the fifth highest average scores in both reading and math. Among eighth graders, Kansas was tied with other states having the ninth highest average reading score and the 10th highest average math score.
