OTTAWA–How safe is the roof of the Garfield Elementary School? That question hung over the meeting of the Ottawa School Board. A consultant told the Board that the roof was not placed properly on support beams, leaving the structural integrity in question. Although he said he sees no immediate danger to children or teachers, the Board voted to do an immediately safety audit to see what should be done about the school roof.
