OTTAWA – “Frozen” has been the hot movie these days but in Ottawa, frozen describes some of the water pipes in homes. Since the temperatures plunged to zero this week, the number of people calling area plumbers to thaw pipes has jumped, Ottawa plumber Mark Carey. Normally, unless there are holes or cracks in foundations, freezing pipes aren’t a problem except in unusually cold temperatures, he said. Carey said for now, the best option for homeowners is to leave a faucet slightly open and the water running and wait for warmer weather.
