OTTAWA – Franklin County Commission chair Steve Harris has filed for re-election to his 4th District seat. Harris said he had originally intended to serve only one term. “Things change in life and I have more opportunity to continue on with the position,” Harris said. “… I think I can be a viable force for the community.” Economic development and expanding the business and industrial sector in the county remains a top priority, he said. The county has been supporting efforts by the Franklin County Development Council to create a new industrial park, which is essential for bringing new industries into the county, he said. The 4th District covers southeastern Ottawa and south central Franklin County. Harris, a Republican, is the first person to file for the county commission. The 1st Ddistrict seat held by Colt Waymire and the 5th District seat held by Don Stottlemire are also up for election this year. Franklin County Clerk Janet Paddock said that because of Jeff Richard’s appointment before the mid-term, the sheriff’s position will also be up for election. Richards was appointed last year by county Republican committee members after Jeff Curry resigned after being arrested. Richards hasn’t filed but said he intends to do so.
