KANSAS CITY — The three owners of Advantage Framing Systems in Spring Hill were sentenced Wednesday to federal prison for harboring undocumented workers. James Humbert, 45, his wife, Kimberly Humbert, 47; and her brother, Charles Stevens II, 51; were each sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison. Each of the three pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens for commercial advantage, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. The company’s owners came up with a scheme that required crew leaders to buy insurance and the company paid the crew leaders, who were responsible for paying the undocumented workers on their crews, Grissom said. The company paid approximately $4.6 million to framing crews even though the defendants knew some of the crew leaders and crew members weren’t legally in the United States, Grissom said. The company provided local builders and contractors with engineered floor, pre-built wall panel, and roof truss systems, along with on-site framing erection labor.
