OTTAWA — A fire caused about $75,000 in damage to a home and its contents in the 900 block of East Ninth Street Friday evening. No one was home when the fire started and it wasn’t reported until one of the occupants returned home and discovered the fire, Fire Chief Jeff Carner said. He said he doesn’t know how long the fire has been burning before it was discovered. The fire started in the center of the home in living room and appears have been caused by something electrical in nature, he said. The fire caused extensive damage to the first floor and smoke damage to the second floor, Carner said. The residents didn’t have insurance on the home he said. The American Red Cross was notified and offered help to the occupants with their temporary needs.
