OTTAWA — Several residents at the Canterbury Courts apartment complex fled their apartments early this morning as a result of a fire that damaged three apartments. They escaped without injury, Ottawa Fire Chief Jeff Carner said. The fire started on the exterior balcony of the second floor unit and was caused by discarded smoking material, Carner said. The fire was driven by high south winds, he said. The fire caused approximately $80,000 in damages. Three units sustained different amounts of damage, he said. Occupants in a neighboring Canterbury Courts apartment unit who were originally evacuated were allowed to return, he said.
