OTTAWA — The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is always seeing lots of animals but it seems in the last few months, the cats have been knocking down the doors. During Monday’s Ottawa City Commission study session, Commissioner Linda Reed asked shelter director Jaron Asher about what’s prompted the sudden increase of cats from other counties. “It’s hard to say,” Asher replied. Douglas County accounts for the greatest number of cats turned into the shelter, he said. There appears a lot ot people are bringing their cats to Prairie Paws because of the shelter’s policy of trying to adopt animals rather than euthanize them immediately, he said.
