OTTAWA — District Judge Thomas Sachse has announced his retirement after 23 years on the Franklin County bench. He was appointed to the Fourth Judicial District by Gov. Joan Finney in 1991. He has covered a wide variety of cases, mostly in Franklin County courts. His last day will be May 9. The Kansas Supreme Court will convene the Fourth Judicial District nominating commission. The commission is comprised of citizens and lawyers in the four-county district and they will compose a list of candidates to be submitted to the governor who will pick his successor. Sachse plans to resume private practice law and will join the Anderson & Byrd law firm of Ottawa. A trained mediator, Sachse will offer mediation and arbitration services through the firm.
