LAWRENCE — A Lawrence man who won a retrial in the 2004 murder of his wife has been released from the Douglas County jail on bond. A jury convicted Martin Miller, 55, a former carpenter and the leader of a Christian school, of strangling his wife Mary. Prosecutors said Miller was having an affair with another woman and wanted to collect $300,000 in life insurance on his wife. The Kansas Supeme Court ruled that District Judge Paula Martin made a mistake in instructing the jury, and ordered a retrial. The Lawrence Journal-World reported Miller will live with his wife in Paola. Miller married her while he was in prison in 2006.
