LOUISBURG — A Louisburg woman has been named to serve at least a few days of the term of former state senator Pat Apple. Republican Party officials elected Molly Baumgardner to the 37th Senate District seat, vacated after Apple resigned when he was appointed to the Kansas Corporation Commission. Baumgardner pulled more votes than Charlotte O’Hara, who challenged Apple in the Republican primary election in 2012. Baumgardner will serve in the cleanup session next week. However, because two years are left on the unexpired term, Baumgardner must face district voters in this fall’s elections. She is a former teacher, and former official and trustee at Johnson County Community College. The 37th senate district encompasses northern Miami County and southern Johnson County.
