OTTAWA — Eugene Field Elementary School is closed today. Ottawa school Supt. Jeannie Stroh said the school’s boiler malfunctioned. It appears the boiler motor overheated, filling the school building with smoke, Stroh said. Ottawa firefighters were clearing the smoke from the school early this morning. Investigators were checking the building this morning, she said. There was no immediate estimate of damage. School should be open as usual Friday morning, Stroh said.
