HILLSDALE LAKE — The funeral for 45-year-old Mark Selbee, former kickboxing champion and small business owner, has been scheduled for Friday morning at the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood. Selbee drowned in Hillsdale Lake this weekend while two of his children were left in his boat. An autopsy was performed on Selbee’s body, which indicated that he died of drowning. Miami County Undersheriff Wayne Minckley said. Selbee and his children were in a 21-foot boat about 400 yards from the shoreline at Hillsdale Point, Minckley said. The children told First Responders, that Selbee dove into the water to retrieve part of a water gun they were playing with, he said. They said he swam a short distance and turned around to come back to the boat but his head went under water and he didn’t surface. Minckley said Selbee wasn’t wearing a life vest. After a 27-hour search, his body was found in approximately 25 feet of water and taken to shore.
