OTTAWA — Ottawa University’s Kansas and on-line units have received continued accreditation for the next six years from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. NCATE looked at OU’s teacher education programs. The reviewers gave OU high marks for improving student teachers’ field experiences and clinical practice, and for improvements in faculty qualifications and performance. OU has sixteen difference teacher training programs including English as a second language, and building principal licenses. The school of education has beefed up its quality by hosting teacher development symposiums, employing doctoral level and published faculty, expanding school district-based relationships, and improving the quality of student teachers’ field experience, OU’s Paula Paine said. OU has been accredited by NCATE since 2000. Ottawa University provides teacher preparation on its residential campus in Ottawa, at the Overland Park adult campus, and on-line.
