OTTAWA — During the Memorial Day holiday “Click It or Ticket” campaign, Franklin County deputies stopped 141 vehicles. Deputies wrote 126 tickets for safety belt citations, one for a child restraint violation, one speeding ticket and one ticket for texting while driving, Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards said. Richards said one other incident involved a chase with a driver in a stolen car. The campaign was part of a statewide drive funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation to crack down on seatbelt and traffic violations. Traffic stops and tickets are meant to teach, Richards said. If drivers learned from the lesson, they and others be safer, he said.
