HOLTON — Residents in the northeastern Kansas community of Holton have lost electrical power twice recently and it’s not because of severe storms. Westar Energy said that both times, the power outages occurred because snakes got into the substation that connects Westar to the city’s municipal utility. Holton city manager Bret Bauer told the Topeka Capital-Journal that it’s the first time he’s ever heard of snakes causing outages. Westar said it’s working on casting out the snakes.
