GARNETT — A 48-year-old Garnett man was sentenced Monday to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years for having sex with a 13-year-old girl last year. James Atkisson, Jr., pleaded guilty late last month in Anderson County District Court to rape. The Anderson County Review reports the case falls under the “Jessica’s Law” provision that calls for life sentences in sex crimes involving children less than 14 years of age.
