OTTAWA — The 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission has nominated Anderson and Osage County Attorney Brandon Jones, and Coffey County Attorney Douglas Witteman for district court judge to Gov. Sam Brownback. Under state law, Brownback has 60 days to appoint one of the two men to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of District Court Judge Thomas Sachse. The commission interviewed four people for the vacancy Friday in Ottawa. Jones is both Anderson County Attorney and Osage County Attorney. His past experience includes as an assistant county attorney for Franklin County and Douglas County, and an assistant attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s office. Witteman is Coffey County Attorney. His past experience includes working in private practice for two Wichita law firms. The 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission is made up of attorneys and citizens and consists of Justice Eric Rosen as the nonvoting chair; and James Campbell, Burlington; Sara Caylor, Ottawa; Craig Cole, Garnett; Thomas DeBaun, Osage City; Forrest Lowry, Ottawa; Eugene Highberger, Westphalia; Janet Walsh, Lyndon; and Timothy Sipe, Waverly.
