OTTAWA – The results of an investigation being conducted by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation into the fatal shooting of Joseph Jennings, 18, Ottawa, almost a month ago by Ottawa police officers, will soon be released, Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler said. Jennings was shot by officers during a confrontation Aug. 23 in the east entrance to Orschelin’s parking lot. Relatives of Jennings say he was shot about 2 dozen times, although that has yet to be confirmed by official reports. Relatives said that Jennings experienced serious emotional problems for years, and was suicidal when he was shot by police, who they say over-reacted.
