DULUTH, Minn. — A federal judge has turned away sentencing objections by the Minnesota man who robbed the Great Southern Bank in Ottawa and kidnapped his ex-wife in Minnesota. Although Timothy Caskey has pleaded guilty to kidnapping his ex-wife and robbing the Ottawa bank three years ago, he appealed plans by federal prosecutors to seek a stiffer sentence against him. U.S. Judge John Tunheim ruled Monday morning that there was enough evidence to show Caskey used a deadly weapon, in this case a screwdriver and a knife; to kidnap his ex-wife in Minnesota and forced her to accompany him on a cross-country journey longer than seven days to Mexico, and sexually exploited her. Caskey robbed the Ottawa bank during the trip. She was rescued when he was captured by Mexican state police. Prosecutors are seeking a 30-year sentence for Caskey.
