LYNDON — A 27-year-old Waverly man was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday morning north of Lyndon in Osage County. The accident victim, Brian Bender, was the passenger of the pickup driven by Bryan Turpin, 34, Emporia. Turpin was driving north on U.S. 75 just north of the K-268 junction, when his truck began to fishtail and crossed over into the southbound lane, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. James Nutt, 52, Topeka, was driving a van south on U.S. 75 and his van hit Turpin’s truck on the passenger side. Bender was dead at the scene. Turpin was injured and was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. Neither was wearing seatbelts, the highway patrol said. Nutt wasn’t injured. He was wearing a seatbelt. The highway was closed several hours.
