GARDNER — An often controversial Gardner City Council member has resigned. Larry Fotovich, who has been on the council three years, said he has sold his house in Gardner and is no longer a resident of the city. His resignation was effective Friday. The city will begin the process of filling the vacancy immediately, Mayor Chris Morrow told the Web news site Gardner Edge. After Fotovich, a real estate broker, bought a house in Olathe in December, there have been several calls this year for him to resign. He was elected to the council during a bitter community battle over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe intermodal on the outskirts of the city After he was elected, he was involved in several clashes with other members of the city council. Another council member, Dennis Pugh, was charged in connection with a fight at Fotovich’s home.
