SPRING HILL — A Spring Hill High School senior has been named a 2015 National Merit semifinalist. Anna Mitchell is one of 16,000 semifinalists nationally. More than 1.4 million students in more 22,000 high schools entered the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Program. She is also in the running for 7,600 National Merit scholarships worth about $33 million to be offered next spring. Mitchell plans to earn a degree in education in order to teach upper elementary or middle school students. She is a member of the Spring Hill High School orchestra, where she plays the viola and takes part in the thespian society. She is the senior class treasurer and co-captain of the Scholars’ Bowl team as well as a tennis player. Outside of school, she volunteers at the public library, helps with and performs in community theater shows and spent six weeks learning Russian as part of the National Security Language Initiative for Youth Program.
