OTTAWA — An engineering consultant says Franklin County should not cut the number of road grader districts. A few years ago, county commissioners cut the number of road districts from 10 to nine and commissioned the study on whether the number of districts could be cut to eight to save money. However, the study by Norman Bowers said that since cutting the districts, Franklin County blade operators have been spread thin. Bowers said that compared to similar counties, Franklin County grader operators maintain more miles of road and put more hours on their machines. Commission chair Steve Harris said the study will end talk about cutting more grader districts. Commissioners will also look at other recommendations by Bowers.
