OTTAWA – Franklin County Commissioner Don Stottlemire has been honored as the top county official of the year by the Kansas Association of Counties. Stottlemire was honored by the state group this weekend in Wichita. It’s the first time in the seven years of the award that a county commissioner has been honored. It’s also the first time someone from Franklin County has received the award. Stottlemire was nominated for the award by Franklin County employees. Nominations were reviewed by an independent board. Stottlemire received the award in part because of his service with the Kansas Association of Counties and because of his community service. Stottlemire will step down in January after he was defeated in the Republican primary by Randall Renoud. He will become the executive director of the Lake Region RC&D, where he has served as volunteer chairman for approximately seven years.
