OTTAWA — A fire heavily damaged one of the buildings that made up the original manufacturing complex of Kalmar Industries, 415 E. Dundee St. early this morning. The fire was reported at 3:20 a.m. by a motorist on U.S. 59 driving by the site, Ottawa Fire Chief Jeff Carner said. When firefighters arrived, the fire was already burning heavily. The building was being torn down, he said. “We believe the cause of the fire was related to some of the demolition work that was going on yesterday,” Carner said. There was some equipment in the building when the fire occurred, he said. Investigators are still trying to pinpoint the fire’s origin and the extent of damage, he said.
