OTTAWA – A recount of votes in one race for the Wellsville school board didn’t change the outcome, Franklin County Clerk Janet Paddock said. In the race for USD 289 Position 2, a handful of votes separated challenger Sheila Robertson and winning incumbent candidate Beth Watson and Robertson asked for a recount. Because of the Position 2 boundaries, voted had to be recounted in Franklin, Douglas, Johnson Miami counties, Paddock said. Because most of the district’s voters lived in Franklin County, Paddock was in overall charge of the recount. Franklin County commissioners canceled their study session this morning but called a special meeting in the old courtroom at the county courthouse to do a canvass of the recount. Robertson paid for election employees’ time to conduct the recount, Paddock said. However, because it was a first, Paddock said her office is working out a protocol and charges for future recounts.
