OTTAWA — The City of Ottawa will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the south end of Kanza Park, 200 W. 15th St. Local Girl Scouts will help with the Arbor Day planting. The public is invited to take part. “It can take up to 100 years to have trees as magnificent as those in Forest Park,” said Steve Thompson, member of the city’s tree board. “We need to prepare for the slow transition as some trees pass away. Therefore, new trees need to be planted with a design that has a plan for the distant future.” Volunteers always are needed for planting early seedlings, care of newborn trees, and other projects, he said.
