OTTAWA — ECKAN will host a poverty simulation workshop on May 19th at Washburn Towers in Ottawa. Workshop participants will assume the roles of multiple families facing poverty and role-play a month in the lives of poor individuals and families, learn what poverty looks like in their community and region; explore the impact of poverty; and discover how to help break the cycle of generational poverty, said Richard Jackson, ECKAN executive director. They’ll learn how to try to stretch money – at less than $6 a day — to the end of the month while trying to navigate payday loans and loan sharks, drug dealers, police department and other common experiences for the poor, he said.  The free simulation is open to the public and to take part or to be a volunteer e-mail to [email protected]. Space is limited.
