OTTAWA — ECKAN’s free summer lunch program begins today. This summer, beginning today, Lunch Bunch meals will be served at Ottawa Recreation Commission’s Don Woodward Center Monday through Friday from noon to 12:30. All children 18 or younger are welcome and encouraged to participate. Menus will be printed in advance. For the second year, ECKAN will offer the free summer lunch program in Anderson County. That will be Monday through Friday from 11:30 to noon at the Garnett First United Methodist Church from June 1 to 26. The purpose of the program is to ensure children receive adequate nutrition during the summer months when school lunches are not available, and when children are sometimes caring for themselves while parents work, said Richard Jackson, ECKAN CEO. The program in Ottawa, which is funded by a U.S. Agriculture Department grant, will continue through July 31st.
