POMONA — A plan by the city of Pomona to annex its own land has drawn local opposition. County planning director Larry Walrod told Franklin County commissioners Monday that the city wants to annex nearly 60 acres north of the town. The area includes the city’s old dump site and its sewage treatment lagoons. Because the land isn’t next to the city limits, according to Kansas law, the city must get the county’s permission to annex, Walrod said. However, Gene Hirt, Pomona, said residents between the city limits and the proposed annexation are afraid they’ll get sandwiched and annexed by the city later.
