EDGERTON — A Wellsville woman and child were killed in a one-vehicle wreck on I-35 near Edgerton Wednesday night. Ashley Towner, 25, was driving south on I-35 near Homestead Road when her car went into the median at approximately 8:20 p.m., the Kansas Highway Patrol said. She overcorrected, and the car, 2003 Chevy Impala, rolled over, the highway patrol said. Towner and her passenger, Ilana Towner, 6, were thrown out and were killed. The highway patrol said Towner wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and although the girl was in booster car seat, it wasn’t buckled in. I-35 was shut down in both directions for about four hours as troopers collected evidence; and the highway reopened early this morning.
