OTTAWA — Shelby Jones, 12, Ottawa, is one of three Southeast Kansas regional winners in the 2015 “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day’” poster contest. She is an eighth-grade student with the Lawrence Virtual School. Jones will receive a bicycle and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas during a presentation Wednesday afternoon at the Kansas Dept. of Transportation shop at Ottawa. A little more than 1,100 kids across Kansas ages 5-13 took part in the contest and submitted entries. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
